Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about how supplementation with CoEnzyme Q10 can help prevent cognitive decline. Cognitive decline during aging can be due to many factors, but most involve problems with the mitochondria of cells. Mitochondria are the energy producers in the cell, but they have many other functions important for cell survival and efficiency. CoEnzyme Q10 is part of the electron transport chain that helps the mitochondria produce energy, but it also is an antioxidant that prevents molecular damage from free radicals. Because the brain uses a lot of energy, it needs well functioning mitochondria. If it doesn’t, free radicals can increase leading to cellular damage and inflammation. Because our mitochondria become less efficient as we age, supplementation with CoQ10 or Ubiquinol can help mitigate damage. Check out the video for more in depth information on the CoEnzyme Q10 and brain health!
