Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about the relationship between physical activity and severe outcomes with COVID-19. Physical activity has been shown to help many diseases like cardiovascular disease, obesity, and anxiety. The article discussed shows another great benefit for physical activity, which is improving one’s resilience to infection from Sars-CoV2. The paper found that being physically inactive (less than 10 min/week) significantly increased the risk of hospitalization, ICU admittance, and death from COVID-19 versus exercising between 11 and 149 min and over 150 min per week. This association held up even when adjusting for other comorbidities and health status except for age and previous organ transplant. Check out the video for more in depth information on the benefits of staying physically active for overcoming COVID-19!
