Dr. Dominic LaSpisa
DACNB
Dr. Dominic is no stranger to knowing just how hard it can be to find the proper medical care that you need. He was inspired to get into the medical field when he watched his mother’s condition decline after a bad car accident. She went from specialist to specialist and was told repeatedly that her options were limited in terms of getting back the quality of life she once had.
This was all until she met a chiropractor who was not willing to give up on her. Within two years time, she went from bed-ridden, to being able to get back into the working force waiting tables. From that moment on, Dr. Dominic knew he wanted to become a chiropractor. Having a love for science, and working with people, Dr. Dominic became a NASM certified personal trainer at the age of 20, where he continued to train throughout his 8 years of college education. While personal training was fun for Dr. Dominic, but he knew he wanted to be involved in the more delicate aspects of patient care, such as rehabilitating injuries and getting patients back to moving again. This made him seek out a job at ADIO chiropractic, where he became the lead physiotherapist, seeing injuries from low back pain, to knee and shoulder reconstruction surgeries.
Here, he polished his skills in soft tissue work, and more intricate physical rehabilitation. Eventually, he completed his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences at National University of Health Sciences, where he achieved salutatorian status, before immediately enrolling in their chiropractic program. While in the chiropractic program at National University of Health Sciences, Dr. Dominic tutored the spine and extremities classroom at the highest level, and joined the functional neurology club, where he began to fall in love with neurology. Learning about the journey of POTS patients, and how they could be helped with functional neurology.
Hearing stories from other students who had gone out in their internship made Dr. Dominic want to make the switch from working primarily on musculoskeletal issues, to helping a much less served patient population with functional neurologic issues. Eventually, he became the president of the Functional Neurology club at NUHS, and went out for his internship at The Neurologic Wellness Institute, where he learned under the tutelage of Dr. George Michalopoulos, and Dr. Michael Drzewiecki, as they tackled very complex neurologic conditions. Before graduation, he was offered a position as a lead clinician at their Waukesha location, where he learned from Dr. Nicholas Schmidlkofer as he continued to study to become a board certified chiropractic neurologist.
