Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about how and why we use colored glasses to decrease light sensitivity. Light sensitivity (photosensitivity) and eye pain from light (photophobia) are very common symptoms following concussion or traumatic brain injury. This can result in decreased quality of life and failure to work. Although many concussion patients have photosensitivity, up to 85% receive relief of their symptoms by using colored glasses. This allows them to continue with school or work along with normal life functions. The colored glasses enhance one spectrum of visible light while diminishing the others. This overall decreases the intensity of light and processing needed by the brain, and hence decreases symptoms. Check out the video for more in depth information on colored glasses and how they are used following traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders!
