On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about the reasons most people should be taking a multivitamin, especially for cognitive health. Ideally, everyone is able to get their nutrients from the food they eat; however, the foods we eat are not like they were many years ago. Today, our soils are not as good making our foods less nutrient-dense, especially vegetables and fruits. At the same time, our lives are filled with stress, chemicals, and toxins in which our bodies need to defend. Hence, taking a multivitamin-mineral supplement can help ensure that we are getting adequate nutrients, in the correct ratios, for optimal health. The video shares a paper that looked at how older adults can improve global cognition and memory by taking a multivitamin over a 3 year period. This is amazing since most people assume that cognition only decreases as we get older.
