Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about the benefits of early rehabilitation following a concussion. The majority of concussions (about 80%) resolve symptoms without therapy; however, 20% of people have symptoms lasting longer than 28 days resulting in the diagnosis of postconcussion syndrome. Although most spontaneous resolve, it is unknown who will have worse outcomes. Risk factors of worse outcomes are previous concussions, pre-existing anxiety or depression, poor metabolic health among others. For this reason, it is beneficial to get properly diagnosed and treated with the individualized therapies as soon as possible. These may include low to moderate exercise, dietary and supplement interventions, and vestibular and vision therapy. Check out the video for more in depth information on the steps to take for proper concussion diagnosis and treatment!
