Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about the benefits of vagus nerve stimulation for many health conditions. The vagus nerve is the main player involved in the parasympathetic (‘rest and digest’) nervous system. It starts at the bottom of the brainstem and connects to the throat, voice box, ear, heart and lungs, and the majority of the organs in the abdomen. Most of the nerve is sensory, which means that the brain receives information pertaining to the status of many organs via the vagus nerve. This allows the brain to properly control these organs. In addition, the vagus nerve is involved in anti-inflammatory pathways; therefore, vagus nerve stimulation can decrease inflammation that is involved in many conditions. Check out the video for more in depth information on who can benefit from vagus nerve stimulation and how to do it!
