Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about concussion brain rehabilitation and why it needs to be unique to every individual. Every person is different with a unique brain that developed in a separate environment than others. At the same time, each individual has had different experiences both before and after the concussion, which contributes to the recovery process. Then, there are different regions and networks of the brain that can be affected by a concussion, and these need to be treated specifically. Each patient can have a variety of symptoms following a concussion that are separated into 3 main categories: physical, psychological, and cognitive. These symptoms tend to activate and amplify one another rather than being separate. Also, the individual differences of one’s environment before and after the concussion can perpetuate or help these symptoms. Therefore, understanding this network is required to develop a precise treatment plan for each individual. Check out the video for more in depth information on why post-concussion rehab needs to be tailored to the individual!
