Ask Dr. Nick
On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about the benefits of creatine supplementation for concussion prevention and treatment. Creatine is a naturally-occurring molecule that is present primarily in skeletal muscles but also other organs including the brain. As a supplement, creatine monohydrate is classically used for muscular performance like athletes and bodybuilders. However, because creatine is stored as energy in the cell and can be used quickly, it can be highly beneficial for the brain. This energy becomes more important when a head injury occurs or when recovery from a concussion. A head injury causes a great deal of stress to brain cells, which may be mitigated by creatine. Check out the video for more in depth information on why creatine should be taken for concussion prevention and treatment!
